The weather has finally decided to improve, with hot sunshine and chilly nights.

The river is fining down and starting to look good, Doonis Lough is alive with lovely specimen Roach, the Rudd will be moving into the river shortly so maybe things are starting to look up.

The wildlife is in full swing, Brimstone butterflies are making their second appearance now, the Fungi have started to appear with large field mushroom and young puffballs offering good eating to those who fancy taking their chances.

A new branch of Birdwatch Ireland has been set up in Westmeath, with regular meetings being held in Mullingar at 8pm on the second thursday of every month at the Grenville Arms Hotel.

Everyone is welcome, the meetings are free and we have guest speakers to offer great advice on the types of birds to be seen, and on how to attract birds into the garden.

There will also be Field Trips with the first being held in October with a nature ramble around the Portlick Amenity Site.

We have added a new section to the homepage called Places to Visit, we will be adding details to this as we get them - this will be centred on where to stay around Ireland and what wildlife to see and what fish to catch there.
