Erithacus rubecula
Status : Resident; Common
Length : 14cm

One of Irelands most beautiful and easily recognised birds, the Robin is often associated as a winter visitor.

It actually lives here all the year round and can be found in the depths of the countryside as well as in the largest cities, the robin breeds commonly in gardens, woods, parks and hedgerows. It eats insects as well as seed and nuts and is not a shy bird, it is highly photogenic when in the right mood and will sit and pose.

This particular Robin was photographed in Wexford at the South Slobs in September 2007
