October

This month has started a bit like September went out rather dry and water levels low, but things are on the change now with lots of rain and Autumn rushing in fast.

Peter Wood and Frank are still out there trying different venues around Strokestown, all small ponds and lakes which are still producing some reasonable fishing with small to medium species including 2 Bream, 1 of 5lbs. and 1 of 2lbs. which was a bonus to say the least.

Talking of Peter he has now gone up a step, to a motorised fishing trolley, having seen a Golf Trolley in the local superstore made enquiries as to how much they cost and was met by a smart young man asking if he was taking up Golf, No said Peter it's an aid for fishing, I wondered what that young man thought!

So the next day Peter landed at my door with this large box containing a Golf Trolley with battery fully charged, can I modify this yoke to carry our fishing gear! - Yes, I said and set about doing just that. After several hours and lots of Tea I had come up with Mark 1 after several demo's around the lawn the next step was to try it out in the wild. Trip one, Lough Lee; the roughest ground you could possibly ask for with 2 gullies filled with water and mud, Bog Grass to your knees and the lake over the bank. After picking up the battery after it dislodged itself 2 chairs that fell off with other oddments of gear we made it to the swim.

Adjustments had to be made, so back to the drawing board, with the aid of a pair of straps and a few nuts and bolts and more Alloy Slats Mark 2 was born and is a total success Peter has now stopped complaining of a bad leg and a back he is now being "Pushed" along to the swim.

My self and Chris are off to the river Inny most days out to try and find the fish but little has turned up in the early part of this month so we've followed Peter around and had good results at "Conny Beg" "Lough Duff" and "Lough Lee" Week ending 23rd the weather has taken over for now as the Inny has risen very rapid and flowing hard as the ponds around North Longford are now slowing up with the sport curtailed for now as water temperatures plummet.

Now the Swallows and Martins are flown off and the leaves have taken on their Autumn colours things will be slowing down somewhat so it will be more bird watching sat in the car rather than sat in the rain watching the waters rise.

However even as I write this Peter Wood has been on the phone and is catching fish from the Inny... so Watch this space!
