October 2003
(these reports are displayed as most recent first)
20th /31st October.
Weather much the same, little rain cold North winds and frosts.
Fishing has been very poor with little chance of finding any water that has got movement, Ballymahon Bridge has now got too low to sustain much in the way of fish, Peter Wood has been trying but now has been forced to retire to the armchair.
Winter has set in now with the clocks going back and there is rain now to help fill the rivers, Tommy Foxe has lifted out 3 boats because theres no room in the harbour.
There were 2 anglers out last Monday in one of the boats up the river Inny Spinning for Pike but it seems to no avail, there were Perch chasing small fry above Red Bridge and the two managed a couple of small ones.
With the aid of my new fish finder I have spent most of my time lately scouring the river for fish only to find the odd fish 'here and there' upstream, around the entrance and up to the first bend there were a good number of fish later in the day, what they were I wouldnt be able to tell without the aid of the rod and a handful of tackle but it keeps me busy for the time being.
October 1st/19th.
Weather has played tricks on the angling, with the water levels down to its lowest for 25yrs.
There are still the odd patches to catch small fish, Ballymahon Bridge where Peter Wood visits often on mornings to catch Roach/Hybrids.
No news of the Canals at this time, Ballykeeran has been hard work with just the odd fish after 3 weeks of fishing by Frank and Peter.
The Lake at Tommy Foxes is disappearing very fast, where on the 26th/28th May two anglers were catching Bream in the bay outside the harbour Tommy and I walked out beyond the reeds on the lake bed.
A little then and now shot:
Then and
Now
Where has all of our water gone.....???
Now the weather has turned to being very cold with the wind in the North so the future looks grim, but there is rain forecasted for the next week (hopefully)
