November 2003
(these reports are displayed as most recent first)
30th of November.
With a good sunny day I ventured out to fish the Inny via the boat after spending time to bail out after fierce rain over Friday night which brought the river up and a lot of debris. Anyhow the weather was right, heading into the first bend there were 3 local anglers after Pike only to find out on my return trip they failed to catch.
Frank and Peter were further up at the 2 swims they had fished previous; they too found it hard going and only managed a couple of bites which turned out to be Perch, I ventured on with the aid of the fish finder only to find it also very poor all the way up to Shrule. I fished several spots were only the odd fish showed up, but failed to get bites and was very glad to return to Tommys kitchen for a cup of hot tea and a warm up on the cooker.
19th /29th November.
Now we are having our share of rain which has improved the river conditions, with the levels coming back to normal, and hopefully the return of fish.
With the short days and some good hard frosts things must be in favour for a good spell of Pike fishing. With a few days of sunshine in the last fortnight Peter Wood and Frank Tooze have ventured out down to Tommy Foxes, fishing on the Gravel Pit section just below the Top Entrance on Tuesday 20th and encountered a good supply of Roach, Hybrids and Perch which fell to swim feeder tactics baited with Red Maggots.
Peter ended the day with about 30lbs. Frank weighed in around the 12lb mark.
On Thursday 22nd Peter revisited the swim and duly found the fish were still in a good mood, all Roach was recorded that day with a good bag around 20lbs. The fish were absent when the two of them returned over the weekend so they moved upstream, Frank to the "High Bank" and Peter further up to the Bog Hole. Things were thin on the ground here with Peter landing a good Bream and Perch, whilst Frank struggled to contact not much more than the odd Perch.
With 2 Pike anglers from Italy staying with Paul/Deirdre over the weekend Friday 21st to Monday 24th both of them enjoyed themselves with 3 days of Pike fishing out on the Lake and in the River Inny.
Here, I would like to mention that Paul and Deirde Foxe has now got themselves a new Web Site with all the information required for a First Class holiday so please spend a moment to visit the site. www.innybay.com.
The river turned out to be the favoured as the Lake only produced small fish where the river provided much better sport, a total of 11 good fish with the best Pike weighing in at a great 18lbs. Caught around the Red Bridge area.
1st - 18th November.
At least we have rain now and the river is slowly rising but its far from the seasonal levels.
Weather has been very good up to now with the odd days of wind /rain, mostly very mild with some cold snaps. The fishing has been not at all good due to the levels, Peter and Frank have tried Maladys with no luck, I myself have been sat back with my ear to the ground awaiting news.
There was a good Pike Competition over on the lake at Barley Harbour (All boat) with some great Pike being weighed in, top fish was a Mighty 21lbs-4ozs. Closely followed by 2 at 20lbs. and numerous good fish around the 15lbs. mark.
Top prize was a brand new Lake Boat duly won by a local angler, more info when I catch up with him plus I hope some pictures and names.
