(these reports are displayed as most recent first)

8th - 31st May

The Fishing has gone by the wayside at the moment, I and Frank went off for a trip upto the north of the country, we did load all of the sea fishing gear just in case, however despite some good weather the fish were less than willing. The water was crystal clear and there were no fish anywhere, so we had a bird watching trip instead. We did see some Puffins out on Raitlin Island but they were about 300 feet directly below us.

We did however get some excellent news and photos from the Tiverton Boys, it seems as though they caught fish everyday and will hopefully be back in September. Michael Edwards sent me a couple of emails, one with reports and the other with some great photos as seen below.

7th May

With the wind still in the South and pleasantly Warm Chris and I went on a walk-about to see who was doing what. Firstly; White Bridge, Plenty of Roach about but few anglers to talk to, 2nd stop was Lanesbough here there were 4-5 anglers also looking a bit down with the results.

Lough Flynn; just outside Strokestown was a delight to see with the breeze in your back, it shouted Fish, Wrong! We tried for 3hrs and failed, not even a rise. Further over we ended up at Conney Beg here conditions were very good so we set up and straight away we were into Roach (not the Inny size) but very good sport.

On looking in the little river that join all the ponds around this area there were shoals of fish all making the best of the flowing water prior to their spawning.

Back to The Inny; only 2 anglers were there and looking over the bridge we saw that remarkable scene, all the fish were Spawning, downstream and upstream a sight to behold, (not so for anglers) but this could be the end of the 2008 migratory of the Roach.

6th May

The weather is still very warm and sunny in a light breeze from the South. After doing a bit of shopping I stopped at White Bridge and met up with the Tiverton Boys making Tea on the Bridge, they needed the Rest from catching fish mostly downstream; one a chuck was the word for the day, all good roach of around the 2 lb mark.

The lads from Tiverton

It seems to me that the shoal has moved up from The Sand Bank and are doing there thing around White Bridge, further upstream, beyond the Grave Yard there were anglers but they pulled out whilst we were having tea and it goes without saying there was not too much going on there.

Looking at the overall picture it appears to be one large shoal of fish that's moving in the river at this time as to whether more fish will follow up only time will tell.

Dennis had his last day at White Bridge which turned out to be his best fishing day of his holiday alongside the Tiverton Boys, his best fish was a Roach of 1lb 13ozs. Dennis called at my cottage on his way to the Ferry wishing he had a few more days on the Inny.

5th May

The River Inny was today's venue with fine weather and it being a Bank Holiday it appeared that most people had the same idea. All of Tommy's boats were out so I pottered about with my boat for a while when Chris arrived having got rid of his guests and was mad to get some Space for himself.

Off we went up the river looking for fish, not too much in the lower section just the odd few here and there up to Red Bridge, beyond upstream, there were slightly more but nothing too excited about. This was the case all the way up to The Sand Bar where we came upon a lone angler from Wembley, London, Gordon Marriott was his name and he had a grandstand Seat, he scored every cast, with a huge catch of Roach and Hybrids totaling around a staggering 200lbs.

Safe return of the fish

With his permission we took some pictures and had a great chat, it made our day so we headed back to the entrance of the Inny for the last few hours to try for the Hybrids; we were rewarded with a dozen or more large fish and several good fish slipped the hook, but who cares!

4th May

The weather has been very good even the tempeture has risen up to 20c so it was time for me to venture out in earnest; my first stop was at AbbeyShrule on the Canal. Here I met plenty of anglers all having problems with catching fish but there's plenty of small Roach and Rudd, as to whether they had seen Tench was a different matter.

I started at the Rustic Inn only to find small fish, moving on up towards the Lock Gates here I met more small fish, but I did hit into a Tench which drove me into the weed and of course I lost it!

May 1st.

It's Summer Time Now; but you would hardly know it, winds are still very chilled and lots of heavy Hail Showers, when the sun is out its quiet pleasant.

After the events of last week, things look very slow on the river with the few anglers that there are only small fish seem to be taken, with plenty of Trout.

Further field, things are not exploding into action yet with reports from The Tiverton Boys, their boys are split up looking for fish, some on Lakes around the Strokestown and local venues with a limited success.

They had good bags from Lake Ramor with the Hybrids with catches of 90lbs top weight. A couple of them fished The River Suck on it's lower reaches have had the odd good bag up to 30lbs at (Coreen Forde)which is one of the easy access whilst a couple fish the Upper Reaches and did reasonably well.
