March 08
(these reports are displayed as most recent first)
22nd - 31th March
With the weather and the longer daylight hours coming into play things should begin to look up from now on.
Peter has had reasonable catches of fish at Tommy's at swim 32 (The Bog Hole) after all the hours he has put into sitting and waiting, signs of a few Bream showing up with the best fish weighing in at over 6lbs and a good showing of Hybrids and the odd Roach.
Chris has had a relative over for a fishing trip, Philip and Chris went for a day down to the fishery in Roosky and then had a bit of time on the River Inny where they had good sport with some Bream, Hybrids and Roach.

Frank's been concentrating on Malady's for the past week and has yet to turn in any results, he's putting it down to Easter has fallen a fortnight earlier this year and hoping things will improve next week.
Chris and I had a day trip to Rodgerstown, north of Dublin to try and capture a few snaps of Yellow Hammers and Brambling, yes we did, and I was delighted having never seen these birds before, its all down to processing the pictures now.
16th - 21st March
The weather has begun to warm up a little bit and sun even put in an appearence or two.
The biggest news is that fish are being caught, real fish, Bream, Roach and Hybrids etc. Tommy's has seen a new influx of fish as well as anglers and the reports are good so far, bites aplenty and some decent little bags of fish are there to be had. The Inny at Mullady's has started producing some bites but they are still shy at the moment.
Bream of up to 4lb are a welcome relief after the long winter, it sounds as though pre-baiting is a good idea to attract the larger Bream, the Boghole is a hot-spot at present.
A group of Pike fishmen from Wexford came up and had a good days fishing out on the lake on Sunday, this was a relief to them as Saturday was very windy and their trip was cut short.
St Patrick's Day has been and gone again, click here to see the latest photos. Tang did an excellent job and was awarded first prize for their efforts.
It is good to see that the information on local venues is always increasing, there is a new website dedicated to fishing in the Lanesborough Hot stretch section. Paul Waghorn is in the midst of creating this at the moment so it is worth keeping a close eye on - lanesboroughangling.ie
1st - 15th of March
March winds will blow, and we shall have Snow. Very true!
We've had it all in the
first 2 weeks of this month, with more Rain and Sleet to contend
with than
the whole month of January.
The state of river is on its way up again, full with freezing run-off water from the already sodden fields. This is not what we want after having to wait for 4 months over the winter. Fishing has not been at all possible in most places and where you can visit its waste of time with no bites, not even movement of any kind. We did read in the Angling Times that there were Plenty of Fish and Fishermen at Lanesbough Hot Water Stretch due to the completion of the power station and the flow of hot water entering the Cut.
The two of us visited the stretch on Sunday the 9th only to find 2 European lads huddled under the bushes out of the wind with very little clothes on and no English. We only had to look, to see that they weren't catching anything. I only wish that if they're going to report on the fishing in Ireland why don't they get in touch with reliable sources instead of trying to con anglers that it's all as it used to be here, sadly it's not, apart from April / May with the annual migratory of fish into the rivers.

If you have a few minutes to spare go back through the Archives and see the reports over the last 5 years and draw your own conclusions on what's been happening. For the angler that wants a holiday with a bit of Fishing, Sight-Seeing and the hospitality of the Local Pub then do come over and relax.
