(these reports are displayed as most recent first)
Sunday 30th.
Sunny periods, Winds in the N.E., light.
Its my first trip that Ive caught fish, along with Frank we headed to the Bog Hole here we found the wind was right in our face so we fished the opposite bank in comfort and found the fish was obliging. We fished for an hour or so and were into Hybrids straight away with he odd Perch all the Hybrids were small so we continued up the river to the Willows which looked good (Calm and out of the wind) this lead to good float fishing until dusk. Here we found the whole section full of Roach with a fish a Chuck, these were of the smaller Roach, up to 6ins. But it was a delight to be catching fish.
Other reports from the district, Local lads had Pike from out in the Lough 1 of 19lbs with a larger one that got the better of the boys.
No fish yet in the town of Ballymahon, Red Bridge, not to many anglers here yet, a few locals Piking, no reports of fish.
Tuesday 25th
Weather still great wind very light SE.
The First Roach came out of the river this day along with Hybrids and small Bream. Peter dropped down to the river outside of his house (Maladys) for a chance to see what if anything was happening, sure enough he was into fish straight away, closely followed by Frank who had fish.
This was the best news this year as from now on were looking forward to the beginning of good fishing Fingers Crossed.
Friday 21st - Sunday 23rd
Weather still holding out with high-pressure fine days with frosty nights More Trout have been reported from the Lough with 2 good fish at 2lbs. 8ozs. and 3lbs.
Frank and Peter have fished The Inner Lakes at Ballykeeran for the last 3 early morning sessions To find there were plenty of fish topping but will move out when the sun comes up, Frank was into his first Bream Saturday a good fish of around the 7lb mark, 3 of smaller Bream, Peter was in the wrong swim this weekend and had only a small Perch.
I myself was down at the river Inny fishing from the boat up at The Bog Hole where I had 3 bites all of which were very light and fiddly, dropped back to the river entrance for the last of the light.
Here it was very quiet on the fish stakes, there were 3 rises in total towards dusk. A few local anglers at Red Bridge for a Sunday outing but all drew a blank. Forecast for next week is that theres a change coming back to Low Pressure which should make a difference, we will find out !!
Saturday 15th / Monday 17th.
This being St. Patricks weekend has blessed us with super weather, full sunshine all day.
Light winds from the East, not good for fishing and with overnight Frost.
The 3 of us were out in force trying all know swims for signs of fish: there were none to be found in 3 days of trying. I myself took the boat up The Cut to see if there were any fish moving through the reeds this again drew a blank, for the sake of 1 fish that broke the surface.
2 Anglers from Ballymahon hired a boat from Tommy Foxe to do a spot of trolling for Pike/Trout they returned that evening with a fine brace of Trout, 1 of which weighed in at 8 lbs. The other, 3 lbs.
3 anglers at Red Bridge all had the same fate.
Wednesday 12th.
After the weather over the weekend it was a spring day chilly N. wind Sun all day
I was in checking the state of the river to find its up 3-4ins and running hard with debris. Frank and Peter were going later in the day report to follow.
Sunday 9th
The Wind has slackened off a small bit and the Sun has come out for a while, looking out from my window theres rain looming over the lake, very mild 12c. SW.
The wind become fiercer and the rains came without mercy, this did not stop Peter catching 3 good Bream, Frank again became an onlooker; he had very fine bites not enough to strike. Meanwhile Peter was settling down to have another good session when his Brolly was torn from its mounting and ripped too threads during a squall, "Oh Dear" said Peter; that was the end of that, sheltering under Franks Brolly they had a fishing meeting, the order of the day was to get back Home
Saturday 8th.
Torrential Rain all day with fierce winds, mild is the only good comment for today.
Friday 7th.
The weatherman has promised a heap of bad weather for the weekend, strong gales with heavy rain.
Today its bearable, with heavy showers and cold SW wind. Peter and Frank is again at Tommys, starting off on the short straight into a rising river, 2ins. Overnight. Without success they moved up to The Bog Hole Bream!! And more Bream!! Peter was first into good fish straight away, Frank could only sit back and wait, with bites he was unable to hook .Peter had 5 fish all of which were of the 6/7lbs class in the first couple of hours after a slowing down of bites he still managed to land 4 more mighty Bream. Frank, only 20ft away could not do the honours no matter what he did.
Wednesday 5th
Wind in the SW a good chillier with some heavy showers laced with hail.
Only fools fish in these conditions, I was one of them; fishing on the Stones for 3 hours without a bite This session ended with the onslaught of a hail storm tearing across the lake, I was lucky to make the car, Frank and Peter werent.
Tuesday 4th
Weather has been very kind good sunny spells and mild with the wind in the S/SW.
Frank and Peter fished toms firstly at the Point followed by several stops up to The Bog Hole it was only here they had fish a good size Bream plus 2 good Hybrids all fell to maggot/worm.
Sunday 2nd
The river had cleaned up a treat, a good pull on though.
Heavy showers in the afternoon but we were under the Brollies, BITES!! came as soon as we plonked in with the feeders, Frank was having the same but very shy twitches; I myself was having the rod pulled off the rest, No I did not hook one in the first hour.
Frank roars for the net on having hooked a Large Bream, which had him working for a change, I nipped down with the net to find Frank winning the battle; boiling water, singing line was all we seen of the mighty bream OFF it went followed by all the curses you can lay your tongue too. I was Next; on returning to my peg and settled down with a cup of tea, the rod took off, I grabbed the Rod to find I was in the same situation as Frank earlier, with the same result GONE all was lost.
With more bites to follow and the same results we came home wondering what has a man got to do?
Saturday 1st
Over night Frost in the midlands after the rains, wind moderate S, Good sunny spells throughout the weekend and warmed as the day got going.
Its the beginning of the Trout Season with a small turn out our end of the Inny Myself and Frank was out at Tommys, Frank fished on the Point up from the Mouth, I fished on the first straight.
Must say the river was dirty with grass and debris and the colour was great, this led to lots of trouble on the line but if the fish were in the mood this would not matter The fish were not in the mood this Saturday just the odd shy bites shown up by nibbled maggots.
