July 1st / 15th July
It has been much the same as June weather wise good sunny spells and some very heavy showers, this have improved the fishing somewhat bringing fresh water to the river.
We were greeted by an Army of Central Fishery personal for the start of this month; Waging War on the Chub once again, with a flotilla of boats (4) and what seemed like two dozen men equipped with enough generators to start a Power Station as well as all the Electrifying gear to stun all the fish in Ireland.

I was speaking to one of the men ( a scientist from Dublin ) about what their task was to be this time, "to clear the Chub from the river" was the reply, they even had a (Chub Expert) from England, How much did that Cost?? He did promise to send me a report on what the end result was, but I am still waiting!
Away from that, things have not been too bad on the river; Tom's stretch has produced some fish on the early and late shifts. Chris and I had some delightful catches of Hybrids and Roach at Malady's fishing the lead with maggots/worm.

I have a confession to make; Against all my will I gave in to fishing a Commercial Pond, at "Roosky" "Lakeland Fishery" only to find it proved to be one of the best days of this season.
On arriving at this venue I was very much impressed with what I saw, in the rear of a built up area and to the rear of a large house was the ponds along with toilets, a shop and well maintained banks to all the ponds. There are rules and a price to this venue but it reflects on the quality of the fishing and the fish. I and Chris, even Scully was aloud to partake in this first off adventure, results were Tench, Bream, Roach, Rudd and Carp all caught on Worms or Maggots,

I managed to hook into large Carp only to find that the Carp had other things installed for me, not just coming to the net like a good Carp; it charged off to the left did 2 laps of the pond and decided to find the aerator in the middle and was set on anchoring my tackle to the said item, which he did! Good Bye Carp.
Plenty of wildlife up here as well with some young moorhens passing under the rod tip:

For any visiting anglers this place is a must for a few days or even a longer stay, Derek is yer man and the web site is:

Back to our patch, the canal has not been worth the effort, the ponds around Strokestown are flooded due to a few heavy Thunder Storms and the River Inny has produced a few catches of fish after the influx of fresh water. Further a field, Peter has connected with a few fish at Shannon Harbor on the entrance of the canal / River Brosna, and at other venues but having to travel miles for the few fish that he's getting.
Our local swans down in the drain opposite me are doing well and have some lovely youngsters to care for:
