February 05
(these reports are displayed as most recent first)
21st to 27th February.
Bitter winds all last week from the North East, putting the damper on the fishing for the moment, Although the river is still dropping, to the disgust of Peter, who really would like Rain.
Peter and I got out for a few hours Saturday in good Sunny weather but freezing cold, all was not well even the tip was frozen and the umbrellas were at full stretch in the stiff wind on the wrong side for striking (downstream) Peter was to find this out on his only bite of this session. Good strong bite, Peter strikes, hitting the umbrella, which shifted it by a yard only to find he didnt hook the fish and roared at the dog, as if he was to blame! He was only watching. I kept a low profile, but really wanted to snigger a little bit! So I went off for a walk to see if there was any wildlife about. Yes there was, 4 Horses on the other bank, even they had their Overcoats on against the cold and a pair of swans not looking to eager to start the nesting program.
...
On returning, Peter was in the throws of packing up and still cursing the umbrella, I myself broke down the tackle still chuckling, out of sight of Peter. All was not over for Peter, on the way back talking over the throws of the last couple of hours and turning into where the cars were parked I noticed Peter had a Flat Tyre I was lost for words. Quietly, I mentioned it to Peter after having locked the dog in my car, fearing for his life.

After Peter landed, back on the ground and resumed to a normal colour we got to the task of changing the wheel, I didnt get to go for Tea today!! Peter did get over it eventually though; he turned up Sunday bearing gifts of New Laid Eggs from Franks chicken coup and had a few belated cups of tea.
Sunday 20th February.
Lovely sunny day, although the wind is still very cold; river in good condition.
Peter was out earlier today and had a good start with 2 Bream of which one was around the 5lbs mark, Perch also found to be plentiful, with a helping of Hybrids. I turned up after a phone call from an excited angler to bring the camera and more ground bait. I did this only to find out as before, the fish knew I was on my way and left the scene so I snapped Peter basking in the sunshine, what else could I do?

14th to 19th February
The weather has been dry but very Cold with the winds veering to the North once again.
River conditions are very good but still plenty of cold water going through.
Peter is still trying with several outings throughout the week, Frank has gone back home for a short holiday for a few weeks I myself have found it too cold for venturing out to sit on the river bank at the moment. Peter has caught the odd Hybrid, Perch and a couple of Trout but the fishing action is very short lived. I decided to pop down to witness the carryings on when Peter have rang me on his Brand New mobile phone to say there are fish about, only to find when I arrived, they disappear.
Together with my son and the grandson we stood back and waited for action but none came, so grandson Jordan posed with Peters rod for a picture, whilst Peter entertained my son with Tales of the Past.

fisherman how it should be done !
7th to 13th February
Not too much Rain over the last week but very cold, winds in the North this latter part of the week.
River conditions are very good with the flood receding around 12ins and all very clean. The water temperature must be very low as the results are also very low. Peter and Frank fished the river for 2 days and found it not producing a single bite, so Thursday the two of them deserted The Inny for Shannon Harbour on the best day for weather all week.
On arriving and taking stock of the conditions, they decided that this was perfect for a few hours fishing. After a few hours each looked at one and another and came to the same conclusion that they were wasting their time sitting there without a single enquiry from anything that had fins.
Back home they found out from a note nailed to Peters door from an English angler who visits often from Abbeyshroule where he has holiday home and regularly fishes the Inny. The Note read:- 4 Good Hybrids and missed as many in swim No 28 hope you had a good day!
Good job Peter has no pets because theyd surely would have felt the Wroth of his Boot.
1st - 6th February.
The start of another month is on us, where does the time go to.
Little change on the fishing front at this moment although the river conditions are high but fishable. Peter and Frank have braved the Cold and Northerly winds over the last week, still having to pick out swims that are not flooded, at least the levels are dropping now and Peter made it to The Bog Hole Balancing on a Tuft of grass, surrounded by water managed to cast a worm on the inside line (as it is now known) and to his surprise landed 2 fine Hybrids.
Due to all this excitement he failed to notice the Chair gradually sinking into the Mire, he soon found out when things started to become cold around the rear end and had to pull out. The greatest fight of this session was retrieving the sunken Chair, assisted by Frank with the aid of a bribe (2 cups of tea with chocolate biscuits ) on returning to Peters Cottage (now fully central heated by yours truly) they managed the job in hand.
The curses from Peter could be heard at Tommys a mile away, now having to wash the mud from his New Chair!!!
Who wants to catch fish when theres so much else going on, tales from the river bank?
