February 04
(these reports are displayed as most recent first)
19th/25th February
Very Cold conditions over the last few weeks with winds in the North sector most of the time.
River conditions are great, a good pull on and clean.
Derek the Pike man has been at it again with a good specimen last weekend around the 15lbs mark along with a couple of lesser Pike. The results from the Lanesbough Pike match have been slow coming through but I did hear that the top Pike weighed in around 21 lbs.
2 Boat fishermen out from Tommys spinning for Pike had a bonus Trout to make their day worth while, a double figured beast 12lbs, duly returned back to fight another day, verified by Tom Foxe. (No Camera) as it always is the case.
Peter and Franks outings have been limited due to the weather and Frank has had a Chest Infection so No Fishing, No Booze only hot Lemon Drinks and his old Duffle Coat.
Myself have spent most of the time looking out of the window at the Frosty mornings wondering will it ever get Milder.
Tom and Paul Foxe are up to their eyeballs with Spring Lambs and early Calves at this time but the boats and engines will have their overhaul soon ready for the new season.
February 6th / 18th.
Weather is turning out to be much brighter and staying mild throughout the day, but still heavy showers with overnight frosts. Winds are in the northern quarter, backing to West and South.
Lighting up time has now reached 6 o-clock.
Derek from Dublin has had 2 trips out in the Lough over the last weeks and enjoyed good Pike fishing, 1st trip recorded several small Pike and 1 of 20lbs+ in the most dreadful conditions High Winds and High Water. 2nd trip Small Pike of around 5/6lbs. a good Trout and a near miss with a large fish, Derek loves his Pike fishing!!
On the river things are on the UP Peter and Frank have encountered some Roach and Hybrids in the latter days, fishing out of The Bog Hole Peter seems to have the upper hand in landing more fish. With the weather on the plus side I shook out the tackle and went along with the boys Wednesday 11th Feb on the first cast along the Short Stretch I was into a large fish which took off like a train which turned out to be a fine Trout around the 4/5lbs, Peter was passing at the time and came to my assistance with the net and the camera and captured all, and returned the fish to the water.

On moving upstream, trying different swims ended up with the Boys in The Bog Hole hear Peter was Float Fishing in 13ft of water, 3 maggots, 14 hook and getting a bite every chuck. Several dozen Roach and the odd Perch made peter smile whilst Frank seemed to have chosen the Perch Hole with all Perch. I settled below Peter, fishing a small feeder maggot / worm, managed to attract Perch and 4 Roach on the small side (But) It's looking better!!
