August 2010

(these reports are displayed as most recent first)

12th - 28th August

Weather has been a mix of heavy rain and Sunny days, the evenings are starting to draw in again. Wind from the Northwest.

The cold evenings are starting to effect the evening sessions on the fishing. I had Brian Lincoln over for a weeks relaxation, well it was relaxing for him anyways. We were off fishing most days up at the Canal and down at the entrance of the Inny. The canal was very good once we had raked a swim and set up fishing in a single swim with the floats almost touching, I had the Tench bubbles while Brian had all the fish. The Roach and Tench were not that big but they were plentiful and we had a few great evening sessions bagging up.

One of the Tench was sufficiently hungry that it even managed to gobble down both of our baits, we both claimed this fish as ours but as I was the one driving the car I won !!!

The Inny provided some good alternative fishing, we started at malladys then headed further down where we anchored up at the entrance, and trotted down with maggots and had good sport catching Bream, Rudd, Roach, Perch, Gudgeon and Hybrids.

The evenings were punctuated with bouts of drinking and even some musical sessions at Lizzys and at the house.

1st - 11th August

Weather has been mixed with heavy showers and patches of warm sunshine but the evenings are cold. Wind has been from the North West.

The fishing has been steady with good tench on the Canal, but a good heavy rake is a must. The Inny is producing mixed bags of Roach, Rudd and Hybrids with the odd Bream amoungst them. Lots of good Trout have been had out on the Lough to a trawled spinner.

The local Peregrines are still about and in fine form, whilst the Bog is currently innundated with Dragonflies and Damselflies including some which are half red with a blue tail, probably one of the Blue Tailed Damselfly colour morph's.

I had an interesting sight down in Kerry when I went down for a few days relaxation with Jimmy. On a quiet walk around Fenit we had a Barn Owl emerge from behind a wall and fly out to sea, it landed quite deliberately on the sea and swam around for a bit, then took off from the water and came to land on a rock, it rested for a while then flew back out to sea and went for another swim. The Owl seemed quite at ease on the water and was easily able to take off from the surface. Most Odd!!

Our Trip to Kerry was called short when Jim got word of a new edition to the family, a Jenny foal, which thrilled Jimmy so much that everything else was abandoned and we rushed back.
