April 07

(these reports are displayed as most recent first)

21st / 30th April

The weather has been much the same throughout the last 4 weeks with only 2 days of rain but nothing to shout about only drawback is its Eastery winds.

Heading into the last week of April we have seen more anglers turn up and there's been quite a buzz around.

Two lads from the Midlands, Martin Robinson and pal Darren, both long time anglers on the Inny, started their holiday in great style with great bags of Roach from the White Bridge area. Martin fished down from the bridge and made good progress on Roach, also netted a Monster of a Trout weighing in at 5lb 13ozs to his delight.

Darren fished upstream on the graveyard bank 100yds above the bridge and produced 70lbs of cracking Roach in just 3 hrs.

Day 2 they were in action again at the same venue but different swim above the bridge each had a great net of well sized fish to produce some memorable snap-shots.

The Tiverton Boys also landed over the weekend and found themselves into large bags of Roach and a sprinkling of Hybrids at White Bridge, but were further downstream and are still at it today, results will be forth coming.

I and Chris have been out looking for fish in the "Ponds" and "The Cut" only to be disappointed with the lack of any bites at all so we ended the evening fishing the "Entrance" to find small but numerous Roach and hybrids.

14th / 20th April

The weather has been very kind over the last week, good sunny days but the
odd frost early mornings and the winds have been light.

Robbie Marsh from up country has begun his weekends fishing on the Inny during the evenings and into the dark with outstanding results. He produced 2 fine bags of Roach and Hybrids, the first catch was a great bag of 70lbs, during a four & half hour period included 20 Roach weighing in at 29lb.

The second catch weighed in at 101lbs over a five hour period fishing from 8pm until 1am. No Bream made the net, but contact was made by several big Bream only slipping the hook at the net.

Robbie did introduce his 14 month old daughter (Lauren) to the Inny which she studied with great interest.

Chris and myself have been out sampling the delight of great Roach fishing at Malady's; we found that the fishing started very well but fizzled out towards the dark. Frank has had a few trips to the Canal near Abbeyshrule for the Tench and Peter had his first Tench with just the odd Roach. Tony Byrne from Dublin fished the entrance of the river and had great Roach of over the pound mark with the odd Hybrids, all at late evening until dark.

7th to 13th April

Weather still on the good side with light winds gone around to the West more now which makes a big difference, good sunny periods throughout.

What a difference a few day makes, over the Easter weekend things have turned on their head with Fish Everywhere. Chris and I wandered down the field on Saturday (Malady's) and were quite surprised to find a bite with the first cast, from there on it was a fish a chuck and good one's at that; mostly female Roach followed by quality Hybrids.

Sunday started the same but fizzled after a couple of hours as they do this time of the season, only to re-appear that evening when Frank visited the same venue and he turned in a Cracking catch with the best being a Hybrid of around 3lb. all taken on the Float with Worms and Red maggots.

Chris and I moved down to Tommy's to attend to the boat with a quick rub down and a oiling, this done we moved over to "The Bog Hole" for a last cast to find things were on fire with bites every cast although the fish were of a smaller stamp, "Who Cares they're fish"

Monday was rest day, for a change.

Tuesday / Wednesday Frank did his evening stint and the Fish are still coming in with the comment "Its Black with Fish".

Driving around I noticed plenty of anglers around, Red Bridge and White Bridge Over the Bank Holiday, what they caught I don't know as I was on a mission.

Chris and I were out fishing on the upper Inny on the 13th, with plenty of fish topping and some nice roach and hybrids being caught. One other fish was caught as well a respectable little Chub.

1st - 6th of April

Weather is still high pressure, sunny and warm, winds from the East.

Peter has been fishing down at the entrance to the Inny with little joy, Frank has been fishing down at Doonis and got only 1 perch for his rewards.

I and Chris went and had a bash down at Malady's this evening and had some very good sport with a lot of small roach and one or two nice ones in amongst them as well as 1 Hybrid, the best part was that it was a bite a chuck.

We also met up with some other anglers on the Inny, Alan Claffey and Friend from Glasson, who were fishing for Pike and caught a cracking 20Lb+ fish.
